Agility Trial Travel Kit

When backyard fun turns to trialing, the travel kit keeps the dog comfortable and the handler organized. A foldable soft crate for the wait, a cooling mat and a travel water bowl, a spare leash and collar, a first-aid kit for paws, and a clipboard for the course maps and the run order. The trial is half logistics — prep it like the handler you are.

FAQ

Common questions about this kit

Why a soft crate?

A foldable, breathable soft crate gives the dog a quiet den at a busy trial and packs flat for travel. It is not for untrained dogs (they can chew out), but for a crate-trained agility dog it is the rest area between runs. Set it in the shade with a cooling mat.

How do I keep the dog cool?

A cooling mat (pressure-activated, no electricity), a shaded crate, and a travel bowl offered often. Dogs overheat fast on a hot course — watch for heavy panting and bright-red gums. Early-morning and late-afternoon runs, shade, and water are the whole heat strategy at a summer trial.

What about paw injuries?

A paw first-aid kit — vet wrap, antiseptic, paw balm, and booties for hot or rough ground. A torn nail or a pad cut can end a trial day. Wrap it, rest the dog, and never run a sore dog for a ribbon. The dog's soundness comes before the score.

How do I read a course map?

Numbered obstacles in the order you run them — walk the course (handlers get a walk-through before the class), plan your path and your cues, and memorize it. The clipboard holds your map and the run order so you are ready at the gate. Handling is decided on the walk-through, not on the run.
