The kit for going far — a 50K to a 100-miler. Max-cushion shoes, a 12L race vest with poles, a headlamp for the night section, a real first-aid and blister kit, layering for any weather, and a lot of calories. Pace the early miles; the race starts at mile 60.

Common questions about this kit
Max-cushion shoes for ultras?
Yes — over 8+ hours, cushion protects the feet and legs that break down on a firmer shoe. Rotate two pairs for a 100-miler; your feet change size.
Poles on a trail run?
For big climbs, yes — foldable poles save the legs on the ups and add stability on descents. Stow them in the vest on flats and downs; poles are for climbing.
Headlamp plus spare?
Yes — the night section is unavoidable in a long ultra. Carry a primary headlamp plus a tiny spare and spare battery; a dead light on a trail at 3am is dangerous.
Blister kit?
Non-negotiable — a hot spot at mile 30 ends a race at mile 40 if you do not tape and lube it immediately. Treat feet early and often; never run through a real blister.
User Reviews
Ultra kit and my BQ build share the rotate-two-shoes and night-section-headlamp brain — the race starts late, agreed. Blister kit non-negotiable.
