Common questions about this kit
Generator CO deaths?
Real and common after storms — always run a gas generator outdoors, 20+ feet from any window or door, never in a garage or on a porch. A battery CO detector inside is the alarm that catches a mistake.
Transfer switch — again, why?
It isolates your wiring from the grid so a lineman fixing the lines is not electrocuted by your generator. Backfeeding a dryer outlet is illegal and lethal. Have an electrician install the switch.
Chainsaw safety?
After storms, chainsaw injuries spike. Wear chaps, eye and ear protection, and never cut above shoulder height or alone. If a limb is under tension (widowmaker), leave it to a pro.
Fuel storage?
Store stabilized gas in approved cans, rotate it yearly (pour it into your car, refill the cans). Stale gas is the leading reason a storm generator will not start when you need it.
User Reviews
Post-storm generator and my power-outage kit share the transfer-switch-and-CO-safety religion — 20 ft from the house and a battery CO detector, always. Chainsaw chaps for the widowmakers, agreed.
