The setup I wish I had started on. A foam longboard (buoyant, stable, and soft so the inevitable falls do not hurt), a leash, a thruster fin set, a 3/2mm wetsuit and booties for the cold, and reef-safe zinc so you do not burn or bleach the reef. Paddle out, catch white water, stand up.

Common questions about this kit
A foam board to learn on?
Yes, full stop. Foam boards are buoyant, stable, and soft — you paddle faster, catch more waves, and do not injure yourself or others when you fall (you will fall a lot).
What wetsuit thickness?
Match the water: 3/2mm for 60 to 68 F, 4/3mm for 52 to 60 F, and a rash guard or boardshorts above 68 F. Too thick you overheat; too thin you cannot stay out.
Why booties?
Warmth and grip on rocks. Cold feet end a session; a cut foot ends a trip. Below 60 F they are non-negotiable.
Do I need three fins?
A thruster (3-fin) setup is the standard — it tracks straight and turns predictably, exactly what a beginner needs. Lock them in tight; a loose fin is a lost fin.
User Reviews
Foam board to learn on — same logic as training fins in the pool: start buoyant and forgiving. Booties-under-60F is right.
