The gear that got me through the first month with a new pup without losing a couch. A crate (with a divider so it grows with them), a harness and leash, food, chew toys that survive, and the gates and pads for the part of the house they have not earned yet. Patience not included.

FAQ
Common questions about this kit
Crate — what size?
Big enough to stand and turn, no bigger. Use the divider so a young pup has just enough room; a too-big crate becomes a bathroom.
Harness or collar for a pup?
Harness. Pups pull, and a collar yanks the trachea. A front-clip harness redirects pulling without pressure on the neck.
How do I stop the chewing?
Redirection and exercise. Give durable chew toys (and rotate them), and tire the pup out — a tired puppy chews the toy, not the table leg.
Potty training — pads or outside?
Pick one. Mixing pads and outside confuses them. If you want outdoor potty, skip pads entirely and go out on a schedule.

The crate-with-divider tip is the tent-with-footprint tip — buy it right once. Good list.
