Flat water, a board, a paddle, and quiet. An inflatable SUP that packs in a trunk, an adjustable paddle, a leash (so the board does not leave you), a Coast Guard-approved PFD, and a pump. Inflate, push off, find your balance.

Common questions about this kit
Inflatable or hard board?
Inflatable to start — it packs in a car, survives bumps and rocks, and is stable enough to learn. A hard board is faster and surfier; get one after you know you love it.
A leash — necessary?
Yes — in wind or current the board blows away faster than you can swim. A coiled leash keeps it tethered so you are never stranded without a float.
PFD required?
In most jurisdictions, yes (the board needs a USCG-approved life jacket on board; children often must wear one). Carry one even if the rule is lax — it is your reserve flotation.
How to start?
Start on your knees in calm, shallow water, find your balance, then stand with feet parallel and eyes on the horizon — not your feet. Looking down is how you fall.
User Reviews
Paddle board starter and my tri-swim kit share the PFD-and-leash gospel — flat water is not calm water. Inflatable-first is right.
