The gear to bring a baby home ready. A safe crib and firm mattress, a reliable baby monitor, a stash of diapers and wipes, onesies and swaddles, a feeding setup, and a car seat (installed and inspected). Get the safe-sleep and car-seat parts right; everything else is preference.

Common questions about this kit
Crib safety?
Bare is safest — a firm flat mattress, fitted sheet, no bumpers, pillows, or soft toys. The AAP safe-sleep guidance is clear; the cute stuff is a suffocation risk. Bare and back.
Car seat — get it inspected?
Yes — ~70% of car seats are installed incorrectly. A certified tech (free, at fire stations and checkpoints) checks the install; do it before the baby arrives, not on the ride home.
Video monitor worth it?
Yes — you will check on the baby constantly; a video monitor saves the walk and lets you see (not just hear) whether to go in. Audio-only works, but video buys sanity at 3am.
How many diapers?
Aim for a week's stash to start (~70 to 100 newborns) — but do not over-buy one size; babies grow fast. Register for a range of sizes; you will use them all.
User Reviews
Newborn essentials and my new-puppy kit share the safe-sleep-and-got-it-inspected gospel — bare crib and an inspected car seat are the crate-and-harness of baby prep. Good list.
