Common questions about this kit
Ruggedized laptop?
Yes for field work — a MIL-SPEC rugged laptop survives drops, dust, and rain that kill a consumer machine in a month. The premium pays for itself the first time it hits the dirt and keeps running.
Portable second monitor?
Yes — plans/PDF on one screen, the app on the other, in the cab or a trailer. A 15.6-inch USB-C monitor runs off the laptop with one cable; the second screen roughly doubles throughput on plans work.
12V inverter / charger?
Yes — the truck is the power source on a site without power; a 12V inverter or a DC charger keeps the laptop and hotspot alive all day. Pair with the power station for the no-truck sites.
Mobile hotspot?
Yes — sites have no WiFi and bad cell; a dedicated 5G hotspot with a better antenna than a phone holds a usable connection where a phone does not. The connection is the work.
User Reviews
Field engineer kit and my server rack share the rugged-and-redundant-power gospel — a 12V inverter and a 5G hotspot are the field version of a UPS and fiber. Rugged laptop survives the dirt, agreed.
