A small lighting/sound controller (or smart plugs on a schedule) runs each room's scare on a loop or trigger. The pacing is the scare — silence, then the drop.
Animatronic worth it?
For a party (not trick-or-treat), yes — a motion-activated animatronic in a dark room is the jump scare people remember. One good one beats five cheap static props.
Themed food?
Yes — it is half the fun. "Eyeball" grapes, a punch with dry ice (carefully), mummy hot dogs. Presentation over sophistication; it is a costume party, not a dinner.
Dry ice safety?
Real — never touch dry ice bare-handed, never put it in drinks to consume directly (use a nested bowl), and ventilate. It is a great effect done safely and a hazard done wrong.
