Growing mushrooms at home is easier than a houseplant and far more rewarding. An oyster or lion's mane grow block (already inoculated — just mist it), a humidity tent, a spray bottle, and a hardwood log plug kit for the long game (shiitake logs fruit for years). Mist daily, keep it shady and humid, and harvest a flush in two weeks.

Common questions about this kit
Where do I keep the grow block?
A shady spot with indirect light and stable temperature — a kitchen counter out of direct sun, or a cool basement. They need light to fruit (not much) and fresh air, but not drafts. Avoid direct sun (it dries them) and a hot stuffy room.
How often do I mist?
Two to three times a day — mushrooms are 90% water and need near-100% humidity to form. The humidity tent (a loose plastic bag with holes) holds the moisture. Soak the block between flushes and it fruits again, often 2 to 3 times.
What is a plug kit?
Wooden dowels colonized with mushroom mycelium (shiitake, oyster) that you hammer into a freshly cut hardwood log and seal with wax. The log fruits outdoors for 3 to 5 years — a long, slow, abundant harvest. It is the mushroom equivalent of planting a fruit tree.
Are the mushrooms safe to eat?
The ones you grow from a reputable kit — yes, identically to store-bought. Never eat a mushroom you foraged unless an expert confirmed the ID; the dangerous look-alikes are unforgiving. Grow your own, or forage with a local expert, period.
User Reviews
Mushroom growing and my raised beds share the shady-and-humid gospel — a mist a day is the inch-of-water-a-week, and the hardwood log is the perennial bed. Grow-your-own-or-confirm-with-an-expert is my know-your-soil gospel, agreed.
