The starter kit for catching trout on a fly. A 9ft 5wt fly rod and reel combo, weight-forward floating line and a tapered leader, the three fly types that catch fish everywhere, a rubber net, and felt-sole wading boots. Practice your cast on a lawn first — then take it to the water.

Common questions about this kit
Is a 5wt the right starter?
Yes. A 9ft 5wt is the universal trout rod — it handles small dries, medium nymphs, and streamers, on streams to medium rivers. Start here.
Dry, nymph, or streamer?
Carry all three. Dries float on top (visual takes), nymphs drift below (catch the most fish), streamers imitate baitfish (big fish). Match what is hatching.
Felt or rubber soles?
Felt grips slick, mossy rocks far better than rubber. Some regions ban felt to stop invasive-species spread — check your local rules before buying.
Do I need waders?
In warm water and summer, wet-wade in wading boots. In cold water or shoulder seasons, breathable chest waders keep you on the water longer.
User Reviews
Fly fishing is the fly-casting cousin of my bass setup — the 5wt-is-universal call is right, same as a medium spinning combo. The felt-sole rules check is a real touch.
