Earn your turns in the backcountry on a splitboard. A splitboard with skins, light touring boots and bindings, a 30L touring pack, and the avalanche safety trio (beacon, shovel, probe) — take an AIARE 1 course before you use them. Climb up, transition, ride untracked powder down.

Common questions about this kit
Splitboard over snowshoes?
A splitboard climbs efficiently and rides down as a real snowboard. Snowshoes get you up but you ride a packed board down (worse). For backcountry riders, a splitboard is the tool.
Beacon, shovel, probe — and then?
Training. Take an AIARE 1 avalanche course before your first tour. The gear is useless without the skill to read terrain, dig a pit, and run a rescue.
How fit do I need to be?
Touring is a workout — expect to sweat up for an hour to ride down in minutes. Skin up resort side-country under a lift a few times before committing to a real backcountry route.
Do I need a different pack?
Yes — a touring pack carries the board diagonally, has a dedicated avy-tool pocket, and holds skins, water, and layers for a full day out.
User Reviews
Splitboard backcountry reads exactly like my ski-touring avy kit: beacon, shovel, probe — take the course, never skip it. Spot on.
