Common questions about this kit
24-105mm zoom for documentary?
Yes — the versatile workhorse that covers wide context to tight detail without lens changes, critical for run-and-gun where you cannot miss the moment swapping glass.
Wireless lav plus shotgun?
Yes — the lav captures the subject's clean voice for interview; the shotgun captures ambient and overheard audio for B-roll. Both, always — redundant audio saves the edit.
Gimbal over handheld?
For moving shots, yes — a gimbal gives smooth, floating footage where handheld is jittery. For interview, the tripod; for movement, the gimbal; both in the bag.
Capture everything?
Yes — documentary is found in the edit, and you cannot cut what you did not shoot. Roll on the in-between moments, the B-roll, the ambient; the story is often there, not in the planned shots.
User Reviews
Run-and-gun doc kit and my YouTube kit share the redundant-audio gospel — a lav and a shotgun, always, and a 24-105 is the run-and-gun workhorse. Capture the in-between, agreed.
