The smallest setup that makes a real track. A 2-in/2-out audio interface, closed-back studio headphones, a 25-key MIDI controller, a condenser mic for vocals, and a pair of active monitor speakers. Add a DAW (and the laptop you already have) and you are producing.

FAQ
Common questions about this kit
Interface or just a USB mic?
An interface. It powers a real mic, gives zero-latency monitoring, and lets you add inputs later. A USB mic is a dead end.
Are 25 keys enough?
To start, yes — sketch basslines, chords, and leads, then edit in the piano roll. When you actually play two-handed, move to 49 or 61 keys.
Monitors or headphones first?
Headphones first (cheap, accurate enough, no room issues), then monitors as soon as you can. You cannot mix what you cannot hear, and headphones hide low-end problems.
Mac or PC for production?
Either runs every major DAW. Pick the OS you know. The DAW choice (Ableton, FL, Logic) matters more than the computer.
User Reviews
Bedroom producer kit is my podcast studio in a different key: interface-over-USB-mic is the same call I make. Monitors-after-headphones is right.
