For competitive, yes — lighter, stiffer, faster swing. A 4U (about 83 g) is the all-round weight; 3U for power, 5U for speed.
Feather over nylon?
For competition, yes — feather shuttles decelerate fast and reward correct technique; nylon floats and rewards nothing. They break, so buy a tube.
Non-marking court shoes?
Required by every indoor court — they leave no black scuffs. Running shoes mark the floor and get you banned.
String tension?
Higher tension = more control but a smaller sweet spot; lower = more power and forgiveness. Most club players sit around 24 to 26 lb. Restring when it loses pop.
