Aerial Hoop (Lyra) Kit

The aerial hoop (lyra) is the rigid cousin of the silks — a steel ring you hang in and pose on. A single-point lyra with a certified swivel, a tabbed span set to hang it at the right height, the same rated rigging and crash mat, and athletic tape to wrap the bar for grip. The hoop rewards strength and shapes; the static apparatus makes the poses photogenic.

FAQ

Common questions about this kit

Single-point or tab lyra?

Single-point (one attachment on top) spins freely — great for flow and dynamic moves. Tab (two points) is more stable and static — better for poses and beginners learning balance. Most performers own both; a beginner usually starts on a tab for stability and graduates to a single-point.

Why a swivel?

A rated swivel lets the apparatus rotate without twisting (and fatiguing) the rigging cable — essential for a single-point hoop or silks that spin. It must be rated for human dynamic load, like everything else in the chain. A non-rated hardware-store swivel is a failure waiting to happen.

What size hoop?

About the height from your seated hip to the top of your head — most adults use a 35 to 38 inch hoop. Too small and you cannot fit inside; too large and moves feel unstable. The studio will size you; buy that size for home.

Why wrap the bar?

Athletic tape on the bar adds grip (sweaty hands on bare steel slip) and cushion for the hands and the back-of-knee hangs. A wrapped bar also protects the finish. Re-wrap it when it wears — a fresh wrap is a cheap quality-of-life upgrade.

User Reviews

4.0 / 5.0

Aerial hoop and my street workout share the body-is-the-weight gospel — the core and the grip are the foundation, and the crash mat is the gymnastics pad. Rated rigging over a guess is form-over-ego, agreed.
